The Country Store is an integral part of the fabric of Dungarvan being in existence for over thirty years. Almost a decade ago it was taken over by local entrepreneur Conor Lannen who has injected new life and vigour into what is now one of Dungarvan's most popular retailers and wholesalers. As well as making daily deliveries to the town and county's most prestigious restaurants and hotels, the shop, which is one of Dungarvan's most famous meeting points, stocks everything from local seasonal fruit and vegetables to the very highest quality exotic produce.

Conor has gradually built up the range and variety of what is on offer so that the Country Store's products now include everything from artisan bakery and confectionery to what has become affectionately known as the "Powersfield House Department" of the store where the most delectable bakes, cakes, jams, chutneys and fresh ready meals, are on offer. Here orders and a "fill your freezer" service are in constant demand - especially for events and occasions such as the perfect get well gift or for a new home or new arrival. A myriad of wonderful produce from other well known suppliers of high repute adorn many of The Country Store's shelves, including nearby Cappoquin's Barrons Bakery which has a full range of their breads on offer on a daily basis; nationally acclaimed Flahavans' products; many Glanbia products such as milk, butter and cream, all of which have their birthplace on local farms; local Moynihan's Honey which is not only of great nutritional and culinary value but is also proven to have magical medicinal uses, especially among allergy sufferers; jams from Barnawee Bridge and Flynns of Cork; Award winning Crinnaughtan apple juice from The Keane estate in Cappoquin; the ever popular Baldwins Farmhouse Icecream from Knockanore on the famous Blackwater, and their nearby neighbours Knockanore cheeses which provide the Country Store with a vast range of wonderful cheeses including black pepper cheese, garlic and chive, among others; Glen fruits based in Clonea stock the Country Store with their award winning strawberries, raspberries and blueberries which are abundant when in season but never out of reach as the frozen section of the Country Store carries these wonderful berries all year ‘round. Eating apples are also locally grown, delivered weekly from Affane Cross. The famous seasonal Ballinacourty potato is constant throughout the summer while all other potato varieties are in continusous stock all sourced from within close proximity, mainly from McGraths of Newcastle and McCarthys of Tallow. Free Range and Organic eggs are also extremely popular in the Country Store, delivered daily from Hylands in Ballyduff, and a range of local farms.

Of course festive seasons are some of the Country Store's busiest times, Easter offering everything one needs for traditional dinners, and family gatherings, Easter cakes and treats a speciality. Then there is Christmas!- where it has become a huge family tradition for many to choose the annual and nationally acclaimed Country Store Christmas tree from the hundreds of Noble Firs outside the doors, or perhaps one of the wonderful selection of wreaths, garlands, swags and table centres inside. From a dining perspective Christmas is one of the Country Store's most bustling times, catering from early November for the domestic gods and goddesses who desire specialist Christmas cake and pudding mixes, or other exclusive products for Christmas baking. Fruit Hampers are a Christmas speciality at the Country Store where everything from the smallest personal hamper for the children's teacher, to hampers containing fruit and non-perishables for friends, family, hospital patients, carers among many others, are a speciality and delivered nationwide.

Among the most popular items in the shop are ready-to-go potatoes, freshly cut chips, and carrot and parsnip sliced mix, all eliminating the arduous task of peeling and washing, making fresh meals with the best quality vegetables much more accessible to the busy household. The shop also incorporates an enviable range of delicatessen items such as sauces, jellies, Italian breadsticks, Italian pastas and a huge variety of herbs and spices.

The Country Store, although offering the very highest quality of produce is unique in its ability to maintain competitive prices while supporting local suppliers. "It is great being able to work in such close conjunction with local suppliers," says proprietor Conor Lannen, "I phone my carrot grower in Ardmore on a Thursday evening, place my order and the carrots are harvested at dawn on Friday morning and available to my customers from 9am onwards," Shopping in the Country Store is an experience in itself - the products, their layout and their visual and textural appeal makes one want to browse and choose without any undue pressure, and the social and conversational aspect of the experience is what attracts and brings back so many again and again.
